Our organization was established in 1988 as a community-based response to Central Alberta’s AIDS crisis. While we’ve evolved to encompass a broader range of service needs, Health Promotion still remains at the centre of all we do at Turning Point Society. Our Health Promotions program not only advocates for increased sexual health awareness and action in Central Albertans but also provides judgement-free support to those living with Sexually Transmitted Blood-Born Infections (STBBI) and their loved ones. This support is specific to each client’s identified needs with improved holistic health as the ultimate goal.

Program Services

Program services offered on-site include:

  • Access to free safer sex supplies and resources
  • System navigation
  • Education on STBBI transmission
  • HIV disclosure
  • Legal concerns
  • Medication support
  • Discussions lifestyle changes
  • And more

Appointment Transport and Accompaniment

A significant challenge Central Albertans face in response to HIV is accessing an infectious disease specialist, travelling to either Calgary’s Southern Alberta Clinic or Edmonton’s Northern Alberta Program.

Health Promotion facilitates the connection to care by providing referrals, transportation arrangements and resources to attend specialist appointments. Regardless of age, income, or demographic, Turning Point’s access to healthcare fund is for anyone in Central Alberta living with HIV.

We also provide a variety of community information sessions and presentations at zero cost. Please contact us if you are interested in arranging a presentation by calling the office at (403) 346-8858.
