Adapting to community needs

DayReach : Funded in partnership with United Way, and collaborating with our other services, this program started in late 2025 seeking to address service gaps in the transition of our closed programming for vulnerable Red Deer community members and affected businesses & partners. Dayreach provides mobile outreach to individuals and establishments as needed to offer basic needs items, social diversion, referrals, and system navigation including recovery pathways. This program includes a Referral Specialist who can offer more robust wrap around supports through referrals by outreach staff. Outreach Occurs Monday to Friday 9:30am-12:30pm and 1:30pm-4:30pm Referral Specialist is available Monday to Friday 9:00am to 5:00pm Outreach Phone Number 403-896-3879

Nighreach : Funded in partnership with Recovery Alberta, this established program offers mobile outreach to individuals at risk every evening of the year, effectively meeting people where they are at and providing supports related to displacement in the elements, homelessness, safety and more. The outreach team travel in pairs on foot downtown to provide supports and supplies to those in need and provides referrals internally and externally for recovery, housing, social and mental health supports. Winter NightReach hours: Monday to Friday 7pm-10pm and 6pm-10pm weekends Outreach Phone Number 403-896-3879

Overdose Prevention : Funded in partnership with Primary Care Alberta (formally AHS), this established program offers supports to individuals, businesses and agencies who are at risk of personal or second hand exposure to substance use harms such as opioid poisonings/overdose. This program provides includes a Nurse and Outreach working focused on education and supports to overdose prevention, substance dependency recovery, and emergency overdose response including naloxone access and training on it's use. Recent Program Closures : In August 2025 our agency received a three month notice from Alberta Health/Primary and Preventative Care to close our core programming which included all the Health Promotion & STBBI programming (both locally and rurally), and our Vulnerable Women's Program. This loss of core funding also resulted in the closure of our downtown Red Deer drop in space which served to address basic needs and health or social inequities for our vulnerable and houseless community. These program closures are due to Alberta Health's system changes and refocusing, and are not a reflection of the quality work and care we have provided our community through the many years of service in operating these essential programs, it is noted that we consistently met or exceeded grant objectives and have kept tidy records, adhering to all governing bodies as a non profit society.

Our Programming

Turning Point has expanded and concluded various programs over the three decades of service we have provided in communities. We are currently undergoing service changes, knowing that our unique approach and relationships in community provide value worth sustaining in new and innovative ways. We are currently seeking new partnerships and funding agreements to provide new programs across Central Alberta and would love to continue deepening our work where we shine best : in homelessness, substance use, recovery, basic needs, and access to low barrier health services. Contact us if you are an agency or funder looking for opportunities for expanded supports in Central Alberta
