Turning Point Society of Central Alberta has been delivering harm reduction programming in Central Alberta since 1998. Turning Point uses a non-judgmental holistic model to support vulnerable populations “where they are at” to be healthier and engage in health and social supports.
Building on this model The Women’s Program will support street-involved women of reproductive age, focusing on those who are pregnant to access non-judgmental health and social supports. This program is built upon the experience of Streetworks’ Healthy, Empowered, Resilient (H.E.R.) Pregnancy Program (2011-to date) based in Edmonton, Alberta and supports the achievement of positive outcomes identified in Alberta’s Approach to Early Childhood Development.
The Red Deer program will be unique to H.E.R as our home community, relationships and agency make up are different. Some of the program realities for H.E.R which is based in the Boyle Street Community Services are not afforded to the Turning Point office space in Red Deer’s Turning Point building (i.e. Housing services, Aboriginal Elders, Children and Family services onsite).
The Woman’s Program will work to create a safe and trusting environment to address the immediate needs of street-involved women.
